World Suicide Prevention Day: Together, We Can Do More

💚 September 10—World Suicide Prevention Day: Together We Can Do More 🫂

Talking about suicide is difficult. That’s exactly why we’re talking about it today.

In Austria, about three times as many people die by suicide each year as in traffic accidents. Worldwide, the number exceeds 700,000—and for every suicide, there are about 20 attempts. Behind every number is a person for whom, in a crisis, simply having someone to talk to can often make a difference.

What you can do: ✅ Speak up if you’re worried about someone—directly and without beating around the bush. Asking doesn’t put anyone on the spot; it actually takes the pressure off. ✅ Listening without judging and without immediately offering solutions. ✅ Stay in touch, even after your first consultation. ✅ Get help—confidentially and free of charge:

• Telephone Counseling Hotline 142 • Ö3 Red Cross helpline 116 123 • “Rat auf Draht” helpline for children and teens: 147 • Emergency hotline 144 • Psychosocial Centers Tyrol 050 500, Mon–Fri 9 a.m.–2 p.m., www.psz.tirol • Tyrolean State Association for Psychotherapy 0512 561734, telephone consultation hours every Thursday from 4:00–5:00 p.m., www.psychotherapie-tirol.at

And if you’re struggling with dark thoughts: Feel free to talk to us at the practice—we’re here to listen.

World Suicide Prevention Day has been observed since 2003 by the IASP in collaboration with the WHO and also marks the start of “Yellow September” (September 10–October 10), which this year focuses on loneliness and has the motto “Together We Can Do More.”
