High Blood Pressure—What Your Home Readings Really Mean
🩺 “My monitor shows 145 over 92—is that bad?”📈
We hear this question almost every day. The short answer: A single reading doesn’t tell us much. Blood pressure fluctuates throughout the day—after climbing stairs, when you’re excited, or after drinking coffee. It only becomes meaningful when you take regular readings over several days.
Here’s how to measure your blood pressure correctly at home: ✅ Sit quietly for 5 minutes before taking a reading ✅ Place the upper-arm cuff at heart level; rest your arm loosely ✅ Always at the same time of day, preferably in the morning and evening ✅ Write down your readings—not just the “bad” ones
To make recording your readings easy, we’re happy to provide you with a blood pressure log. Just ask for it at our practice, fill it out at home, and bring it with you to your next appointment. ⌨📅
And if the readings remain unclear: We have a 24-hour blood pressure monitor at the practice. It takes readings for an entire day—including at night—and it’s often the nighttime readings that are crucial for our assessment.
We’ll work together to interpret what your readings mean right here in our practice 💚
