Shingles Vaccination: Withdrawal from the Public Vaccination Program

💉 Shingles Vaccination: We are withdrawing from the public vaccination program

This decision was not an easy one for us—and we want to explain it to you openly.

The vaccine for the public program can only be ordered through the electronic vaccine shop operated by Bundesbeschaffung GmbH. This process is technically outdated and highly limited. We’ve only ever been able to secure a few doses—and even then, only at intervals of several weeks to months. During that same time, significantly more people have joined our waiting list; there are now over 100 on it. A new allocation should have been available recently as well—but once again, it was not possible to place an order.

We’re not alone in this: Discussions with colleagues show that very few practices in the area are able to secure orders in significant quantities.

We’re very pleased with the strong interest in this vaccine and continue to recommend it without reservation. Under these circumstances, however, we’re unfortunately unable to offer it through the public program.

What this means for you: Your waiting list will remain active but will be put on hold for the time being. If anything changes regarding the program or its implementation, we’ll be happy to process your requests and get back to you.

Vaccinations are still possible: The vaccine is regularly available at the pharmacy. As things stand today, it is possible to get vaccinated at cost—just let us know.

Important: We are, of course, still very happy to participate in all other public vaccination programs—especially the childhood vaccination program.

The many hours that have been spent so far trying to place orders are better spent with you: providing care right here in the community.
